Ljubljana, 02 August (STA) - Budget carrier Easyjet on Thursday launched scheduled flights to Berlin, making the German capital the second destination after London that it serves from Ljubljana Airport.
Easyjet will operate three flights weekly to Berlin's Tegel Airport until 10 November, but if the service turns out to be profitable it will make it a year-round destination, airport manager Fraport Slovenija said.
Fraport Slovenija executive Janez Krašnja said the airport was counting on a significant increase in passengers on the route, in particular in the tourist segment.
One-way fares start at about 20 euro.
Ljubljana Airport currently serves ten airlines operating 34 destinations, with Easyjet, which operates flights to London's Stansted and Gatwick, the second largest carrier by capacity, according to the aviation portal Ex-Yu Aviation.
Krašnja was hopeful that more carriers would add Ljubljana to their route map in future, as Spain, Italy and Scandinavia in particular are poorly served from Slovenia.
